California ban on gun sales on state property upheld on appeal

California laws banning the sale of firearms at state facilities do not infringe on constitutional protections for free speech or gun rights, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, in a consolidated decision addressing separate appeals, rejected gun advocates’ arguments that laws banning the sale of firearms in public accommodations of Orange and San Diego Counties violated First Amendment restrictions targeting commercial speech and the United States.
