Free Shred event on June 15

ENID, OK – Let’s come together to fight fraud and shred instead. AARP Oklahoma, The Enid News & Eagle and Security National Bank are hosting a free shredding event on June 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. Shredding will take place in the parking lot south of the Security National Bank drive-thru, 201 W. Maine in Enid. The event is free and open to the public. AARP membership is not required to participate.

Oklahoma State Superintendent Sean Voskuhl warns that identity theft, fraud and scams affect everyone, especially seniors and veterans. “Shredding personal documents such as account numbers, dates of birth, passwords, PINs, signatures, and Social Security and driver’s license numbers is a crucial step in protecting your identity from criminals,” Voskuhl said.

Shred event organizers ask participants to adhere to the following guidelines:

• Please do not bring documents containing metal larger than a staple.
• Please do not bring magazines or cardboard to shred.
• There is a maximum of two boxes per person.

Voskuhl said people don’t have to attend the Shred event to request a free fraud prevention kit. Simply visit aarp.org/fraudwatchdog, fill out the request form and the kit will be mailed to you. By requesting the kit, you will also be automatically entered to win a $50 gift card.
