Suspects still at large in Welkom murder case

Welkom Police are still searching for the murderer(s) of Zithembile Brian Mgqeku (43), whose lifeless body was found in an open field behind the Edu-College facilities on December 26, 2023.

Mgqeku had received several stab wounds to the head and body and was found still bleeding by a passerby.

The deceased was identified by one of his aunts at the Welkom mortuary.

When he died, Mgqeku was residing at Ngabazeli Street, Thabong.

Lejweleputswa Police Media Liaison Officer Captain Stephen Thakeng says preliminary investigations revealed that on December 25, 2023, at around 8:00 p.m., Mgqeku went to a nearby shebeen to buy beer.

“That was the last time he was seen alive. He wore gray jeans, gray All Star tekkies and a cream tracksuit top.
