Odds for next Lakers head coach: Dan Hurley rejects Lakers offer, odds change

It’s been over a month since Darvin Ham’s firing, and the Los Angeles Lakers are still in need of a head coach.

Although LeBron James had a breakout season and Anthony Davis played in a career-high 76 games, the Lakers ended a disappointing year with a first-round elimination that cost Ham his job.

Over the past month, JJ Redick has dominated the betting markets as the favorite to become the head coach of the Lakers.

However, an explosive report rocked betting markets last week, although it did not come to fruition.

The Lakers had put all the press on UConn Huskies head coach Dan Hurley and made him a massive long-term contract offer, according to ESPN and FOX Sports college basketball reporter John Fanta.

With this news, DraftKings Sportsbook has reduced the betting odds on the next Lakers coach.

Then, on Monday, Hurley officially rejected the Lakers’ offer to stay at UConn.

Before the news, Reddick was the favorite to land the job at -225, followed by James Borrego (+600) and Sam Cassell (+700).

Odds have not been republished on DraftKings.

The Athletic recently reported that James “was not involved” in the Lakers’ coaching hiring. That same report stated that the Lakers believed Redick was “a potential Pat Riley-style coach who could both help the franchise in the short term and lead it for years to come.”
