A 62-year-old Beloit man will spend more than 20 years in prison for his role in an attempted bank robbery last year.

David Steven Gober was found guilty Friday of charges of robbery of a financial institution and attempted armed robbery with use of a dangerous weapon.

On June 16, 2023, Gober robbed the BMO Harris in Beloit, handing a bank teller a note that said “give me all your money, I have a gun.” Later that same day, Gober attempted to rob the Goodwin Hotel in Beloit, again passing a note to an employee indicating he had a weapon.

Gober was sentenced to 12.5 years initial custody followed by 5 years extended supervision for theft from a financial institution, and 10 years initial custody and 5 years extended supervision for attempted armed robbery.

The two sentences will be concurrent.
