The Acolyte Fans Spot Reference to High Republic’s Great Hyperspace Disaster

Warning: spoilers for episode 7 of The Acolyte.

The latest episode of The Acolyte appears to feature a reference to the Great Hyperspace Disaster, spotted by fans of the High Republic novels.

Episode 7 of The Acolyte opens with a flashback sixteen years earlier on Brendok, where the Jedi are seeking a convergence in the Force. In one scene, Master Indara explains to his Padawan Torbin, “A hundred years ago, this planet was labeled lifeless due to a hyperspace catastrophe, and yet this planet Brendok is thriving.”

People took to X/Twitter and Reddit to decry the apparent nod to the Great Hyperspace Disaster, which Charles Soule discusses in his High Republic-era novel Light of the Jedi. “Is this the first direct connection to the High Republic books outside of Vernestra?” one person wrote, to which another added, “And also the Vow of Barash.”

What is the Great Hyperspace Catastrophe?

The Great Hyperspace Disaster occurred when a freighter called Legacy Run was struck by a Nihil storm ship while in hyperspace. The ship was torn apart and its debris was thrown out of hyperspace onto several worlds, causing widespread chaos. It appears that Brendok was one of the planets affected by the disaster.
