Belize Chief Justice Cites Progress in Criminal Justice Reform

Belize Chief Justice Louise Blenman yesterday highlighted progress made in the Central American state’s criminal justice system following the groundbreaking Needham’s Point declaration last September.

Speaking at the inaugural Criminal Justice Reform Legal Conference at the Marriott Hotel, Guyana-born Justice Blenman highlighted the transformative impact of the Needham’s Point Declaration, which she said quickly became the foundation for Belize’s legal reforms.

She highlighted the establishment of the Sentencing Guidelines Committee and the Sentencing Advisory Committee, pioneering bodies in Belize intended to implement comprehensive sentencing standards in the near future.
