Chambersburg Man Arrested After Discharging Firearm Inside Apartment

In Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, a 23-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning following an incident where he discharged a firearm into the floor of his apartment. The Chambersburg Police Department responded to a disturbance call at an apartment complex on the 2800 block of Orchard Drive at approximately 12:27 AM on July 9, 2024.

According to the police report, the caller, a family member of the suspect, reported that Dominic Shambaugh had fired a gun inside his apartment. Upon arrival, authorities determined that Shambaugh, who appeared to be intoxicated and experiencing mental distress, had discharged the firearm. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Shambaugh was transported to Chambersburg Hospital for a mental health evaluation immediately following the event. It was later found that he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to an active protection order against him in the state of Virginia.

Following his discharge from the hospital, Shambaugh was taken into custody and is facing charges for discharging a firearm into an occupied structure and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is currently being held as he awaits further legal proceedings.

Shambaugh is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Chambersburg Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
