Recent Human Trafficking Arrests in La Crosse Spark Concern

The La Crosse Police Department is seeking to raise awareness after two recent arrests for human trafficking.

Police issued a news release Tuesday that defines human trafficking and provides resources for victims and those who know someone is being trafficked to access help.

The two recent cases involved a teenage girl and a woman struggling with drug addiction.

According to the ministry, millions of women, children and men are victims of these practices every year.

The U.S. Department of Justice defines human trafficking as coercing a person to provide labor or services, or to engage in commercial sex acts.

According to the police department, violence, manipulation, false promises and romantic relationships are among the methods traffickers use to lure victims. The department says victims are often reluctant to report crimes for fear of shame or retaliation.
