Ludlow man charged with weapons following disturbance

LUDLOW, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) — A Ludlow man is facing multiple firearm charges after police responded to a disturbance over the weekend.

According to the Ludlow Police Department, around 8 p.m. on June 29, multiple 911 calls were received regarding a disturbance involving a man yelling and screaming near a parked car on Bristol Street.

When police arrived at the scene, they found João Afonso, 44, with an unloaded gun, a high-capacity magazine and ammunition on him.

Due to his agitated condition, Afonso was taken to the hospital for evaluation before being transferred to the Ludlow Police Department for arrest.

Afonso was charged with several weapons and disorderly conduct charges before being released on bail on July 1.
