Student found dead: LD engineering student commits suicide in hostel room | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: Tragedy rocked the LD College of Engineering on Tuesday morning when the body of a 20-year-old student was found in a pool of blood in his hostel room. Authorities are treating the case as a suspected suicide, possibly linked to a recent exam-related incident. Inspector Shilpa Bava of Gujarat University police identified the student as Urvin Chuiya, a fourth-semester chemical engineering student from Mandvi in Kutch. “Urvin was found in room 435 on the third floor,” Bava said, adding, “Blade cuts were visible on Chuiya’s wrists and neck. The grim discovery was made by Chuiya’s friend, who on finding the room locked suspected something was amiss and raised an alarm. “The door was forced open to reveal Purvin’s lifeless and blood-soaked body inside,” Bava said. Despite the unusual nature of the throat injuries, initial investigations point towards suicide, the inspector said, adding that the blade used belonged to Chuiya, which he always kept in his bag. Chuiya was under severe stress after he was caught with a mobile phone during an exam on July 1, the inspector said. “He was worried about his future,” Bava added, mentioning that his friends tried to comfort him, but he kept repeating that his future looked bleak. The Gujarat University police registered the case as an accidental death and informed Chuiya’s parents. His body was sent to the Sola Civil Hospital for postmortem.
