Break Incident: Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon | State

BENNINGTON — Bennington police are investigating a report of a carjacking that occurred in the Walmart parking lot around 11:20 p.m. Friday, July 5.

The suspect entered the victim’s vehicle through the passenger window after displaying a firearm. The victim was forced out of his vehicle and the suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle. The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries by members of the Bennington Rescue Team. Vermont State Police assisted in this incident.

During the investigation, it was determined that the suspect attempted to rob two Walmart associates while on duty outside the store. The suspect approached the two Walmart associates, pointing a firearm at them. Both associates were bound with duct tape while the suspect demanded money from them. The suspect eventually fled after a delivery vehicle drove by. The associates were not injured.

The suspect fled the scene and stole a white 2023 Toyota Highlander. The vehicle was found on Elm Street on Saturday. The suspect is approximately 5’5” and wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, white shoes, gloves and a mask. Witnesses described the offender as a young white male.

The perpetrator of the incident is unknown at this time and investigators are following up on leads. Police are also asking residents of Elm Street and surrounding neighborhoods to check their security cameras for suspicious activity after 11:30 p.m. on July 5 through the early morning hours of Saturday, July 6.
