Serial Shoplifter: Has Mapp Caught His Man?

Serial Shoplifter: Has Mapp Caught His Man?A hot-handed thief may have been stopped in his tracks thanks to the long arm of the law. Now in custody, a suspect will face justice after a series of crimes committed in south and east Auckland.

“The Counties Manukau East Investigation Team claims the same offender is responsible for 26 incidents of shoplifting and theft, the majority of which involved thefts from grocery stores, pharmacies and petrol stations,” confirms James Mapp (Counties Manukau East CIB). “The number of charges and the value of the items allegedly stolen overall reflect the level of harm inflicted on retailers.”

A 36-year-old man arrested in Otara will appear in Manukau District Court on July 29 after being burgled at 17 locations in the area.

As reported recently, police believe they have successfully brought retail crime under control – including raids – but there is still work to be done.

“We continue to focus our efforts on those who commit the most crimes against retailers,” added Mapp. “Police are actively patrolling known retail crime hotspots and will continue to work alongside our partners and retailers to prevent further crime and hold offenders to account.”
