Man shot dead outside Brossard gym; victim believed to be linked to Hells Angels

BROSSARD — Eyeglasses and a baseball cap were among the personal belongings strewn on the ground after a fatal shooting in broad daylight outside a Brossard gymnasium on Wednesday.

A man was shot in the parking lot outside the World Gym on Taschereau Boulevard, west of Highway 10. A 911 call was made at 11:30 a.m. about the shooting.

Police confirmed the victim’s identity Wednesday night as Roger Bishop, 49, a former Hells Angels associate.

He was hit by at least one bullet and taken to hospital in critical condition. His death was pronounced a few hours later by Sûreté du Québec officers, who took over the Longueuil police investigation.

SQ spokesperson Ingrid Asselin said earlier Wednesday that police were investigating whether the attack was linked to organized crime. She also noted that a burned-out vehicle was discovered on nearby Thierry Street. Investigators are trying to determine if there is a link between the two crimes.

Police set up a wide perimeter in the mall’s parking lot, meaning up to 100 cars were off-limits to drivers while police scoured the area with a K-9 unit.

Investigators met with witnesses and local business owners and called on other witnesses to assist them.

The SQ is asking anyone who has witnessed suspicious behaviour or criminal activity to call 1-800-659-4264.
