Saginaw Township Police Search for Armed Robber at Local Gas Station

SAGINAW TWP, MI — Saginaw Township police are hoping the public can help identify a man who recently committed an armed robbery at a gas station.

On July 2, around 12:40 a.m., a man entered the Admiral station at 5605 State St. He had cash in his hand and asked the clerk for a Black & Mild cigar. The clerk took the item and placed it on the counter, at which point the customer launched himself horizontally across the counter, Detective Sergeant Chad Brooks said.

The customer pushed the salesman aside and ransacked the cash register, taking all the cash. The man then fled.

A Michigan State Police K9 dog went to the scene to find the culprit, but was unsuccessful.

The man did not get much cash because convenience stores typically have little money in their registers at that time of night, Brooks said.

The thief did not show any weapons. However, armed robbery is a crime punishable by 15 years.

He wore a gray hooded sweatshirt with an unknown red and white emblem on the upper chest, black and white basketball shorts with green stripes on the side, black and white shoes with a red stripe on the heel, and high black socks that reached down to his knees.

With no arrests made, police released surveillance photos of the suspect in hopes someone will recognize his clothing.

Brooks urged anyone who recognizes the man or knows his whereabouts to call investigators at 989-793-7226.
