Everton have rejected Manchester United’s second bid for Jarrad Branthwaite.

An opening bid of £35million from Old Trafford for the highly-rated defender was rejected last month before Monday’s improved £45million valuation.

But despite Erik ten Hag’s side being prepared to offer a further £5m in future additions, taking the deal to £50m, the Blues’ stance remains unchanged.

Branthwaite is currently valued at around £70million given his sparkling performances and his contract with the club until the summer of 2027.

Goodison Park bosses also based that valuation on the high premiums paid for centre-backs, including United’s signing of Harry Maguire in 2019 for £80m.

Sporting director Kevin Thelwell had already prepared supporters for several player departures this summer due to Everton’s profit and sustainability issues.

However, they are currently under less pressure to facilitate cut-price sales following the start of the new financial period, which began on July 1.

Meanwhile, Sean Dyche’s side have moved ahead in the race to sign Jaden Philogene after agreeing a £16million deal with Hull City for the winger.

The 22-year-old is said to be keen on a move to Merseyside with sides currently chasing his signature including Ipswich and Crystal Palace.
