Siddharth supports Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s drug awareness initiative, provides clarification

Actor Siddharth has clarified on Instagram after his comments about ‘socially responsible actors’ were taken out of context. During the press meet of ‘Bharateeyudu 2’ in Hyderabad, the actor was asked about Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s drug awareness initiative. Siddharth expressed his full support to Revanth Reddy in his attempt to create awareness about drug addiction.

At the press conference in Hyderabad, Siddharth was asked if actors were socially responsible. He cited the example of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy asking actors to create videos to raise awareness about drug abuse in exchange for a hike in ticket prices during release or when seeking permission for outdoor shooting.

Responding to the question, Siddharth said, “My name is Siddharth, Telugus have seen me working for the last 20 years. I cooperated with the government between 2005 and 2011, held a condom in my hand and promoted safe sex on billboards in united Andhra Pradesh.”

He continued, “It is I who have taken responsibility, not because any chief minister told me to. Similarly, every actor is socially responsible. We do things according to our conscience. Whatever the chief minister asks us, we do it. No chief minister has told us that we will help you only if you do it.”

Siddharth’s comments sparked a debate on social media.

He quickly clarified with a video message on his Instagram page. The ‘Chithha’ actor said his remarks were taken out of context and expressed support for CM Revanth Reddy’s demand.

In the video, he said: “We are talking about zero tolerance in ‘Indian 2’ – zero tolerance for corruption, zero tolerance for drugs. My statements at the press conference of ‘Bharateeyudu 2’ were misunderstood by some. I want to clear this misunderstanding.”

Here is his clarification:

He added, “I fully support Chief Minister Revanth Reddy garu and the Telangana state government in their fight against drugs. The future of our children is not only in their hands but also in ours. It is our responsibility to safeguard their future. I 100% agree with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy garu and the state government to involve the film industry in the campaign.”

Siddharth further said, “So far, I have been involved in many socially responsible initiatives. And I will continue to do so. My words this afternoon simply meant that no one forced us to leave the government and we are doing it of our own free will. So, I want to congratulate the Prime Minister and his government for their perseverance in fighting the drug menace. We are with you, sir.”

After the incident, the ‘Bharateeyudu 2’/’Indian 2’ hero had also recorded a message on the fight against narcotics.
