Alberta RCMP officer charged with child pornography

An RCMP officer stationed at the St. Paul, Alta., detachment has been charged with child sexual exploitation offences.

Evan Peacock, 33, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of possession, distribution and accessing child pornography, according to a news release from Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams.

ALERT is an integrated policing unit comprised of provincial law enforcement resources that focuses on serious and organized crime.

ALERT’s Online Child Sexual Exploitation Unit began its investigation in November 2023 when the suspect allegedly uploaded two videos depicting child sexual exploitation to Snapchat.

“Although the investigation and charges relate to online offenses, the nature of the suspect’s employment places him in a position of trust and authority,” the press release said.

“ICE encourages anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact law enforcement.”

Peacock, a three-year member of the RCMP, has been suspended with pay.

The unit received the tip from the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre, and the suspect’s identity was not released until late this month, the release said.

“ICE investigators acted quickly to make an arrest,” the statement said.

Police said they seized evidence from the suspect’s St. Paul home and will conduct a forensic investigation into the seized devices.

Peacock’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 23 in St. Paul.
