Luna takes action against drug addiction with fun run – HERALD EXPRESS

LUNA, Apayao – In celebration of World Drug Day, also known as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT), the city government organized a fun run titled “BIDA: Takbo Kontra Droga” on June 28, 2024.

Luna Mayor Josephine Bangsil led the event alongside representatives of the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) with participants running from the Apayao-Cagayan border to the Luna Municipal Hall.

International Drug Day (IDADAIT) is observed annually to highlight the importance of combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking globally. It serves as a platform for governments, organizations and individuals to raise awareness among individuals, families and communities about the harmful effects of drugs.

This year’s theme, “The Evidence is Clear: Investing in Prevention,” advocates for drug policies based on scientific research and human rights. It highlights the need for a comprehensive understanding of the social, economic and health impacts of drug use, promoting evidence-based approaches to prevention and treatment.

The provincial government, together with national organizations, supports this global initiative aimed at combating the drug problem.
