Two Breaux Bridge men charged with robbing ATM repairman

TERREBONNE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Two Breaux Bridge men have been arrested on first-degree robbery charges in connection with an alleged armed robbery at an ATM.

According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, deputies received a call around 8 p.m. from a bank in the 100 block of West Main Street on Monday, June 24.

When police arrived at the bank, they spoke with the victim, a man who was repairing the ATM. He told them that he was allegedly “approached by two masked suspects while he was servicing the ATM” and that they “demanded money and threatened to kill him using a firearm.” According to the repairman, the two suspects “forcibly removed several components from the ATM” and left the bank in a vehicle.

With the assistance of the ATM repairman and other witnesses, TPSO deputies were able to identify the type of vehicle the suspects escaped in and were further investigated by Violent Crimes Division detectives.

According to TPSO officers, the investigation led to the discovery of the vehicle in St. Martin Parish and a suspect, Gilbert Matthews. Officers were able to locate damaged parts of the vending machine in the area.

After further investigation, authorities were able to locate video surveillance footage showing Matthews and the second suspect, Jermonte Hamilton. Additionally, officers were able to collect DNA evidence from other parts of the vending machine, according to the TPSO.

Man arrested and charged with murder in Washington Parish

Matthews, 27, was arrested by St. Martin Parish deputies on Tuesday, July 2, and was booked into the Criminal Justice Complex on $5 million bail.

TPSO officers arrested Hamilton, 23, in Lafayette and he was booked into the Criminal Justice Complex on $3 million bail.
