Springfield man arrested, illegal firearm seized after chase

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police officers apprehended a man and seized an illegal firearm following a shooting incident on Saturday, July 6, around 11:10 a.m.

Christian Ayala-Pellot, 28, was taken into custody in the 300 block of Orange Street after officers responding to gunshots heard near Allen Street and Alberta Street received a description of the suspect who was reportedly on a scooter.

Shortly after, Ayala-Pellot was spotted by officers in a parking lot on a scooter.

Trying to elude police, Ayala-Pellot ran a red light, collided with a vehicle and led officers on a foot chase before being arrested in the backyard of a residence on Orange Street.

During the arrest, a loaded firearm and four bags of heroin were recovered from Ayala-Pellot’s fanny pack.

Further investigation revealed that he had provided a false name to police and was the subject of an active extradition warrant from Pennsylvania.

Ayala-Pellot faces multiple charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large-capacity firearm on a public street, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and possession of a Class A drug.

Additional charges include disorderly conduct, malicious destruction of property, leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage, operating a motor vehicle without a license, providing a false name and refusing to identify oneself as the operator of a motor vehicle.

He is also accused of being a fugitive from justice on an arrest warrant.
