SHREVEPORT, La. – Twenty-two local teens have the rare opportunity to participate in the Caddo County District Attorney’s Youth Leadership Academy for a week.

It’s an opportunity for young people to have fun, be inspired and perhaps set a course for the future.

“One of the first things they taught us when we came into the program was trust,” Daisha Harrison said.

“We’re not here to lock people up. Part of our mission is to show mercy and encourage young people to move forward. I was encouraged to move forward from a very young age,” said District Attorney James E. Stewart Sr.

Summer interns from the district attorney’s office organize and gather support for the program, which they hope will have a lasting impact.

“I remember Miss Green telling us that no one defines who you are except you. I took that with me and ran with it,” Deshayla Harrison said.

“At the end of the week, it’s amazing the changes you see in these kids,” Stewart said.

This is the second year of the program.

The 22 students represent almost double the number of students who participated in 2023.
