Police believe the same person is responsible for a series of shoplifting incidents in Auckland.

A 36-year-old man faces 26 separate charges of theft and shoplifting after being arrested at an address in Ōtara.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant James Mapp said the majority of the robberies took place at grocery stores, pharmacies and petrol stations in Counties Manukau.

There was a similar method of offence and a description of the person allegedly responsible, he said.

“We continue to focus our efforts on those who are most prolific in their offenses against retailers,” Mapp said.

“Police are actively patrolling areas known to be the scene of retail crime and will continue to work alongside our partners and retailers to prevent further crime and hold offenders to account.”

The man has since been deported from 17 locations and remanded in custody.
